Dedication

This page is Dedicated to William "Bill" Casterline 1910-2002, the last ice harvester on Harvey's Lake.

Bill is shown here in 1932 using a rotary cutter powered by a 1926 Ford Model T engine.

A Local Industry

Prior to the wide adoption of mechanical refridgeration in the 1940s, natural ice was used in homes and businesses, and for rail transport. Most lakes supported ice harvesting operations in the winter months. The Harvey's Lake industry reached its peak in the 1920s.
