Pollution at the Lake
As the population of the Lake grew and houses were enlarged,
pollution became a major issue. Closures due to algae blooms and other pollution problems plagued
the lake's tourism industry.

The Ruggles Pioneer Band
A century ago many rural communities took pride in their local band.
These were voluntary organizations which provided a social outlet for its male members,
entertainment at local churches, farm shows, parade grounds, amusement parks, and competition among
country and city-based bands.

In July 1922 the business firm of Myron R. Williams and Sons was
created at Alderson at the Lake. The firm secured from the State formal registration of the
trade-name Harvey�s Lake Bottling Works.

Collecting Postcards
In the final decades of the 20th century, antique postcard
collecting was more popular than stamp collecting - and the prices for old postcards rose
accordingly. Now, at the end of the second decade of the 21st century the postcard craze and prices
have diminished. The most popular postcards for many collectors were produced before World War I and
in the decade after the Great War.

Grotto Pizza and Modern Sunset
In the modern era Joseph A. Paglianite's Grotto Pizza has dominated
the Sunset scene not only with his "legendary" pizza business but also with his extraordinary civic
and charitable support to the Lake community. With the closure of Hanson's Amusement Park in 1984,
Sunset again became, as it was over 150 years ago, the Lake's principal destination that attracts
the public to the Lake, and Grotto Pizza is the heart of Sunset.

Harvey's Lake Post Offices
The earliest post office in the Harvey's Lake region was Lake post
office created on November 1, 1850, with Lewis Allen, a son of Otis Allen, Sr., as postmaster. The
Lake post office location is not described in any news or historical account but undoubtedly was at
the Allen home in present-day Loyalville. The Allen settlement was among the earliest patches of
homes in Lake Township.
