Paul Whiteman, the “King of Jazz,”was born in 1890 and after World War I he revolutionized the American dance orchestra.  He was America’s most popular band leader in the 1920's.  he commissioned George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue which premiered in 1924 with Whiteman’s Orchestra and Gershwin at the piano.  Whiteman appeared at Fern Brook on September 1, 1939.  He died in 1967 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
