For four decades Lake visitors had the unique experience of horse-back
riding at the Mohawk Riding Academy. Located on Old Lake Road a short distance from the bridge at
Sunset, the facility was owned and operated by the Norman James family.

Harvey's Lake Ski Area
In late January 1965 Pennsylvania Governor William W. Scranton
declared January 22-31 as "Pennsylvania Ski Week." The State was promoting its growth as a winter

The Winter Lake
This article reviews winter activities and incidents at the Lake
generally between 1874 and 1968 when recreational pursuits on the ice were a common feature. The
weather was generally colder and the Lake offered fun and danger to both guests and the settled Lake

The Y.M.H.A.'s Camp Ahmy
The Lake once hosted three major Summer camp grounds for the youth of
the Wyoming Valley. The YWCA's Blue Triangle Lodge had an annual camping season for girls from 1918 to
1949. The Wyoming Valley Girl Scouts had Camp Wildwood from 1924 to 1973.

Rood's Camp and Bus Service
For over 60 years the Rood family served the Lake community at West
Corner at Sandy Beach. Thomas D. Rood (1809-1882) was an early settler in Bloomingdale, Ross Township.
His son Benjamin Moss Rood (1847-1913) was raised in the Bloomingdale area and was a farmer, merchant
and carpenter. During the Summer he was also the butcher at the Patterson Grove campground.
